Map the hotel against your arrival and visit

Ask for the precise map pin, entrance photograph or landmark and the route from your transport drop-off. “Near” a heritage square does not specify walking surface, steps, distance with luggage or vehicle restrictions. Tell the property how you will arrive and ask where staff can meet or assist if the door is difficult to locate.

Plot the places you plan to visit, but also consider departure logistics. An atmospheric inner location may suit walking during the day while requiring more planning for an early vehicle. Choose knowingly: convenience means the route works for your luggage, party and schedule, not merely that the straight-line distance looks short on a map.

Verify the exact room and vertical access

Request the room category, floor, bed type and count, bathroom arrangement, window or ventilation, heating or cooling and whether a lift serves the room. Buildings and renovations vary, so never infer accessibility or amenities from the word “heritage.” Ask whether the photographs shown are of the category offered for your dates.

If stairs, low thresholds, uneven surfaces, room size or bathroom access matter, describe the person’s practical needs and request current measurements or photographs where useful. “Ground floor” may still involve steps from the street. A property’s willingness to answer precisely is more useful than a generic accessible or family-friendly label.

Ask about sound, light and daily operations

Historic districts, courtyards, neighboring businesses, guests and local activity can create sound at different times. Ask whether the offered room faces the street, courtyard, reception, restaurant or another activity area. Recent reviews can reveal patterns, but only the property can explain the current room position and any known work during your stay.

Confirm reception hours, late-entry arrangements, room key or access process, backup lighting and whom to contact overnight. If you need reliable internet or a work surface, ask about that room specifically and keep an alternative for essential calls. Broad property amenities may be available only in common areas or operate on a changing schedule.

Compare complete room and meal terms

For identical dates and guests, ask for the total payment terms with taxes or service charges, breakfast, extra bedding and requested transfers clearly marked. Check what breakfast includes, when it is served and whether an early arrangement is possible. A “room with breakfast” label does not answer timing, menu or dietary questions.

Clarify currency, deposit method, payment recipient, balance timing and receipt. Verify account changes using a trusted property contact before transferring money. Do not treat a lower non-refundable rate as equivalent to a flexible booking. Attach the exact cancellation and change terms to each comparison so that the value of flexibility remains visible.

Check safety, belongings and transport support

Ask about room locks, luggage storage, emergency exits, evacuation assistance and how staff respond to a fire, power or water interruption. Locate the exit after arrival. These questions cannot prove that no incident will occur, but clear answers and visible procedures help you judge whether the property has considered ordinary guest needs.

Confirm whether transport is operated by the hotel or arranged through another provider, what vehicle and pickup details will be sent and what the price includes. Keep valuables under your control and read storage or safe terms. A staff recommendation does not remove your responsibility to verify an outside transport arrangement and its payment conditions.

Create a complete pre-arrival confirmation

Save a document showing property contact, guest name, dates, guest count, room and bed, floor or access promise, meals, transport, total, amount paid, balance and cancellation terms. Include expected arrival and the meeting point. Ask the property to correct discrepancies before travel instead of relying on a later verbal explanation.

Reconfirm essential access or late-arrival arrangements shortly before the stay and keep the map and phone number offline. The right Bhaktapur hotel is not automatically the closest pin to a landmark. It is the property whose actual route, room, comfort and written terms fit your trip without hiding important tradeoffs behind a broad heritage label.
