Search for the product, not only the word shop
A useful search starts with the item and the details that make it suitable: brand or material, model, size, color, quantity, budget and city. Add whether you need delivery, fitting, installation or after-sale service. This separates relevant shops in Nepal from businesses that share a broad retail category but do not carry what you need.
Use a directory profile to locate possible sellers and official contact routes. If a business has several branches, identify the exact location you will visit. Inventory, opening hours, payment options and repair facilities may differ between branches, even when they use the same name and website.
Confirm the exact item and current stock
Give the shop a precise description or product code and ask someone to check the branch stock. For clothing or furniture, confirm measurements and material. For electronics, confirm model, storage, region, condition and included accessories. For food, cosmetics or health-related products, check packaging and dates that matter to safe use.
Ask whether the item is new, used, refurbished, display stock or made to order. If travelling a long distance, request a reasonable hold and written confirmation of the branch. A photograph can help identify the product but should not replace inspecting labels, condition and documentation when you collect it.
Compare the complete payable amount
Use the same specification when comparing sellers. Check whether the quoted figure includes tax, delivery, assembly, installation, essential accessories and any payment charge. A lower product price can become more expensive when required extras are excluded, while a higher offer may include useful setup or local support.
For a deposit or advance order, record the item, expected delivery date, cancellation terms and balance. Ask for a quotation or order receipt that identifies the seller. Avoid sending a non-reversible payment solely from an unexpected social message; verify the recipient through a known shop channel first.
Check authenticity and seller-backed evidence
Directory inclusion does not authenticate every product a shop sells. For branded or regulated goods, inspect serial numbers, seals, importer or manufacturer information and any applicable label. Ask whether the seller is an authorized channel when that affects warranty eligibility, then verify the claim through the brand or responsible source where possible.
Be cautious when a price is far below comparable offers and the seller will not provide an invoice, model details or inspection. A genuine-looking box or online photo is not enough. For a high-value purchase, keep the serial number, invoice and a record of the condition at handover.
Read returns and warranty terms before paying
Ask whether returns are allowed for change of mind, incorrect size, damaged delivery or a defect, and note the deadline and required packaging. Exchange-only, credit-only and refund policies are different. Customized, opened or clearance items may have separate rules, so do not assume one sign covers every product.
For a warranty, identify who provides it, how long it lasts, what is excluded and where a claim is handled. Ask who pays transport and whether repair, replacement or another remedy applies. Keep the invoice, warranty record and service contacts somewhere accessible; verbal assurances are difficult to use later.
Plan delivery and inspect the handover
Confirm the delivery address, access conditions, date or window, handling charge and who is responsible for installation. Large items may require measurements for doors, lifts or stairs. If the seller uses a separate courier, clarify when risk transfers and how damage or missing parts should be reported.
Inspect quantity and visible condition before accepting when practical, and follow safe setup instructions. Photograph significant transit damage and notify the seller through the stated process promptly. A complete shopping decision includes the product, seller, documentation and support after the sale—not just the figure on the shelf.
